I love books where the readers are given an entire closely bonded loving family. This book has the Morrissey’s. They’re an all-male Shifter family who live together under one roof. They are all also very attractive enormous alpha males who love to touch, hug and show physical affection. Kim is a very human attorney who is currently defending a Shifter, Brian who has been jailed and accused of killing his girlfriend. The humans want to see a Shifter, any Shifter get punished for the crime. Kim has sought out Liam Morrissey in Shiftertown to get him to help persuade Shifters to communicate with her. Kim believes in Brian’s innocence. Liam decides that Kim is honest and is truly fighting for Brian and decides to help her. Liam ends up doing more than just helping her with her case. When Kim is attacked by a feral Shifter and learns numerous Shifter secrets, Liam must protect her from further harm.
Kim and Liam have an immediate intense attraction. Throw in some hot sex and exhilarating fighting and this should make for a great book. I had a few issues that most probably would not have issues with. I felt that Kim’s character did not take Liam’s mate claim seriously. Once he voiced his claim she just went with it, had some fantastic sex, and then expected life to go back to normal without him around. She carries on this way even after a formal mating ceremony.
In the world that Ashley has created for her Shifter Unbound series humans know of the Shifters. Humans have known of Shifter existence for twenty years. All Shifters must wear a Collar that keeps them from becoming violent. The Shifter’s also live separate from humans and are denied most things that humans have easily assessable to them. Shifters don’t have smartphones, satellite TV, high paying jobs, nor are they allowed to attend universities. I really did not care for the world and that lead to most of my dislike of the book. I would like to believe that we humans have a little more humanity than that. The other aspect that I disliked about the book was that one of the plots was thin and got lost in the book. There are multiple plots, and the one about Brian and his court case went missing for a short time and then it’s too quickly wrapped up.
