This book is more of my New Year, new genres resolutions. I have tended to stay away from Urban Fantasy. I crave the happily ever afters. I loved the character Sabina, so I did not care that she does not get herself a man. She is strong and very independent. I am almost certain a love life for her could ruin the book. I love the hairless demon cat! This cats personality and attitude is fantastic. I loved Sabina’s snark. I love snark in general so that made it very easy for me to enjoy Sabina as a character. The book flows smoothly and very quickly. The action starts at the very beginning of the book and hold a steady pace. There is no time between page turning for boredom.
Sabina is a half vampire half mage assassin. Her grandmother is the vampire queen. Sabina has never lived up to her grandmothers expectations, due to the fact that the woman is impossible to please. Lavinia is constantly reminding her that her mixed blood is an embarrassment. Sabina has put up with it for a little over fifty years. What I found interesting is the fact that Sabina did not stand up for herself and put her grandmother in her place (she is a tough gal!). After all Sabina is being punished for her parents actions. It’s all the events in the book that will finally push her to the house cleaning decisions that she will make.
Sabina’s next mission is to kill a half demon half vampire who is recruiting vampires into his cult. First she must work herself inside to spy on the inner workings and report back to Lavinia. The mission dynamics change when Sabina starts to take on an exploration of herself. Who she really is, who in her life is trustworthy and who needs to be removed from her life. She is going to learn that there is more to her life than she ever imagined. She ends up in a new town with a Nymph roommate, Vinca who is overly perky. Insert the sexy hexy Adam and throw in a ton of sexual tension and what you have in your hands is a great start to what appears to be a promising series.
