Review

I had a hard time getting into this book for about the first half. It just didn’t hold my interest for very long. I also felt for a paranormal book that this should have had more vampires earlier in the book. The only mention of vampires through most of the story is the dreams that Paige is having. About two thirds of the way through is when we find out about vampires. I was really on the fence on how many stars to give this so I am giving this story 3.5 stars and 4 flames.

I appreciated the realism of the main character because as a reader you can relate to her, her feelings and problems. However based off the summary I thought there would be more of a paranormal angle in the story than there was. Paige doesn’t find out about vampires until late in the book. The first part of the book is more Paige's internal struggle with herself compared to her friend who is younger and in her opinion more exotic than her. She feels more like a middle aged wallflower and her husband takes her for granted. When Casey shows up he shows Paige that she is her own kind of wonderful.
The characters were well developed I thought especially for a book of this size. The romance between Paige and Casey was well written and I enjoyed that part of it. The struggle between clans was good. Also I did like the twist on how to become a vampire. The last part of the book is the part that I liked. There was a little more action and it just seemed to pull me in more. After she finds out what was causing all the problems and the choices that she now faces I felt that Paige really pulled it together and the story really improved for me. That is why I went with 3.5 stars instead of 3 stars.
All in all this wasn’t a bad story and I believe the author has a good start on another series. I will read the next book in the series.

  2. Rachel, thank you for your honest review. I am listening to my reviewers and changing a few things up with how the next story in this series starts out. More vampires and more action up front. I will also have more input on the the book description with this one as well.

Ciara, hope you enjoy and look forward to hearing your thoughts as well.
