Leila is a lawyer-in-training and to help pay off family
debts has worked as a whore in her downtime.
Her world shifts on its axis when her secret is revealed to her boss
(Joseph) and co-worker (Matt) after they hire her out for an evening of bedded
bliss. This results in Joseph paying her
debt in full and Matt hoping to win her heart.
What neither of them understands is that Leila has come to love her
naughty night life. She comes to
understand that part of the draw has been the healing of her broken heart after
a torrid romance with an ex Charlie – that leaves her wanting the darker side
of love and life. Finally coming to
grips with the fact that not every person loves a happily ever after with the
white picket fence and vanilla sex, Leila finally decides to follow her heart
and her libido.
Just have to say…I loved this book. I completely ‘got’ Leila
and her struggle to be true to herself.
Wanting to be a good girl but loving being bad is a complete struggle
many will understand. I could have read
the book in an evening, but took my time to savor every moment. It was not a predictable read and the author
shocked me with a few of the twists in the story. The author has a quick and cutting wit that
left me rolling at times. Don’t be
turned off by the “whore” scenario because in the grand scheme of things the
stigma is the only thing you won’t love about this character or her job.
What I loved about the book was that it didn’t try to force
Leila to be the perfect woman that wants what every good girl is supposed to
want and sacrificing her happiness for it.
It let Leila explore and decide for herself the type of love she wanted
even if it meant she’d get hurt in the process.
Several glimpses into BDSM are exposed, but not enough to terrify the “good
girls”. The sex was steamy with MFM and FMF ménages, as well as a very detailed
“naughty school girl” at a wedding. The
vanilla sex was steamy as well and made you hope she’d find her happiness in
that path. However, the dark draw of a
man with scarves and a knife is hard to look away from.
It took a bit to get used to the way the author would switch
around in the scenes with little warning and I would have to re-read a few
lines to clarify what had happened. It
also took a bit to get used to the British colloquialisms that I struggled
with, but it really adds to the story and opens up a whole other world. I am
anxiously awaiting the next story in The
Whored’s Prayer (6-4-12) which continues this tale of lust and love with a little
bloodshed in the process…I hope.
