SETTING: 19th
century post Civil War San Francisco
CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER:
She runs a clean and successful, no whores, no nonsense saloon in one of the
worse parts of town imaginable. The food
is good. The gambling tables are
full. The whiskey soothes the
palate. Always providing an opportunity
to give any woman a life with dignity, she is not afraid to stand up to anyone. Even the most dangerous and notorious citizen
of them all.
CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: Haunted
by the past, he comes into town wearing the jacket of a Union Army captain. He has searched the past (4) years for the
object of a promise made to one of his fellow soldiers. Though his reception is cold, he proceeds “uninvited”
into the world of a beautiful woman with kissable lips and a derringer on her
hips.
WHAT I LIKED: Cera’s
Place has a nice balance of character dialogue and descriptive
language. L’amour is expressive (ahhh
sigh). Like with most romance books, the
author starts slow but once the action picks up, you can hardly put the book
down. Relationships that did not exist
in the beginning are well established by the end.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: The brief mentioning of a man reaching into
his pants as pleasure filled his hands did not really add anything to the book. Accents were inconsistent. One minute you thought the person spoke with
an everyday common folk accent and the next minute that same person talked like
Festus’ western drawl.
TYPICAL ROMANCE STUFF:
Love’s misunderstandings and resistance;
Villain aka the
trouble-maker aka the bad guy;
Small amount of colorful
language;
Moderate sexual content
NOTE:
Slavery still exists
today through HUMAN TRAFFICKING. Don't just sit there and say, "how
awful". Become active in fighting this crime. Please Go to

read about Human Trafficking.

I read this review over a month ago on Amazon, why is it just getting posted to the blog?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Mindi. I have close to a 50 scheduled posts at any time. To give an author top post on my blog they generally have to wait 6-8 weeks for one of those dates. To help word get around on their book the review generally posts to goodreads & amazon at least a month before the book posts to my blog.
DeleteThank you for clearing that up for me! I was really wondering, I am a new book blogger and don't have that many posts yet. I also reviewed this book and loved your review I think is was honest and thorough. I am following you now. If you would like to read my review of the book you can here http://bookburp.blogspot.com/2012/05/ceras-place-by-elizabeth-mckenna.html#.T9Ip1tWm-8A Thanks again
DeleteI love historical romance particularly when the setting is the Old West. This one sounds like a good read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
