Blog Tour: Author Interview & Giveaway: MaryLynn Bast

Exciting day here! I have not one but two Diva's present. My reviewer Rachel has cruised by with her very first interview and she has brought MaryLynn Bast along for the ride. Please give them both a ginormous Diva welcome and kick back to learn some interesting things about an author and her new series.

Would you like to start off by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I am from Texas, currently living in Las Vegas. I have traveled extensively with my jobs across the US, Japan and S. Korea. I am currently on break in between contracts so I would relax, but I’m promoting my first novel. Yay.  My three children are grown and my husband is an over the road driver and is gone all the time. I have my apartment to myself which is a good thing since I don’t sleep much because my brain is constantly going with what I am going to write about next.

How did you get started writing? Do you remember what sparked an interest to writing?
I remember writing stories in elementary when the teachers would ask for a sentence, I would just keep writing. Even then my mind was creative and going. I always had my nose in a book I would bring home from school. Not that I was a geek or anything, I just liked to read. When I was around twelve, I went to a yard sale and there was a box of harlequin romances. I had a dollar in my hand and the woman gave me a box of thirty books for that dollar and I was in heaven. I dug in and my mind started twirling with stories of my own. Walking to and from school, I would think of stories to write. Go home write them down.  With the purchase of those books you would have thought I had won the lottery.

What is one thing about you that your readers would find surprising or never guess about you?
I love martial arts. I took karate and had a blast. If I had a bad day I could go punch, kick and destroy the bag or my opponent and get the aggression out before going home. I am also a very shy person. I won’t approach anyone on a personal level, but get me in business mode I will be in your face.

Can you tell us about your current work in progress, perhaps you could share a favorite fact or piece of fascinating information it?
With “No Remorse” complete and published, I have several projects I am working on. “Softest Touch” is the second novel in the series and is at 35,000 words.  Anticipated completion and release is set for early 2013.
I just completed “A Justified Kill”, a 20k+ short story that tells the story of Amber’s first kill that is mentioned in No Remorse and the chaos that ensues. This story will be released in an anthology mid-summer 2012.
“One Bite To Passion” is an erotic story I am currently 25,000 words into. I am in talks and will know soon if this story will be released through a publisher, early summer.
“Dream Walker” is a sci-fi that I am working on and will be releasing as a short story in an e-book later this year along with “The Hostage” which is an action, thriller short story of the character Marcello, from “No Remorse”.
There are many stories that have been started and are sitting waiting for me to get the time to delve back in and flesh them out.

Was there a character in No Remorse that you enjoyed writing more than others? What made that character so special to you?
Amber was the favorite character. As she journeyed through her life on her own, I connected with her on several levels. One, my job often had me traveling a lot. I was always away from my home, family and friends. Although Ambers was forced because of her family situation and being a werewolf, I could still relate. Two, Amber is torn from her mother at a young age and has to learn to deal with things on her own with no guidance. I lost my mother when I was nineteen, so again, that was familiar territory for me.
Blake was fun to write because I found him sexy, charming and just the right amount of dominance, but he also knew when to back down and admit that he may not always be right.
Fun wise though I have to say Adam because use he is the best friend, always there, ready with a smile and a smart ass comment.

What was your favorite scene to write in No Remorse and why?
I think my favorite scene in No Remorse is when Blake and Amber become intimate for the first time. It was a tender moment between where she could let her guard down and not worry that she was going to be hurt. She was with the man she loved, but would not admit that to him or even to her own self at that point

Did you have a message you’d like readers to take away from No Remorse?
A person can be different. That makes them unique in their own way. They may feel that they don’t fit in. They don’t because they have not found the right crowd or person to fit in with, keep looking and be who you are. They will come along.

Of all the books out there in the world is there one that you would wish to be a character in? Which book would it be and why?
Sherrilyn Kenyon has been my favorite author since I read her first book. ”The Dark-Hunter Credo: We are Darkness. We are Shadow. We are the Rulers of the Night…” I am a night owl and would much rather sleep during the day. All I need are the powers and abilities of a Dark Hunter and I would be good to go!

What have you read and loved recently?
Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Acheron”, he was always so mysterious in all the books that I wanted to know his story. I know he has been out for a while, but had not had a chance find out because I have been busy with writing. When I start reading a book and I like it, I read it from cover to cover.

How do you spend your down time between edits, deadlines, writing and creating new and fascinating books? Do have a favorite pastime or hobby to fill you spare time with?
When I am in between working on my own stuff, I take a break and read.  I know, not much of a break. But, reading other people’s works motivates me to keep going and actually spawns new ideas as I go. Living in Las Vegas it’s kind of hard not to enjoy going out to see the strip occasionally and dropping a few quarters here and there into a couple slot machines. I also like to take road trips with my husband. He drives, so I get to do two hobbies at the same time, travel and read some more!

Synopsis:

Due to her unusual birth, Amber has abilities no other werewolf has ever possessed. On the run since childhood, the lone wolf avoids contact with other werewolves at all cost, continually moving, constantly looking over her shoulder and always alone.

Everything changes when Amber saves a werewolf from the mere brink of death, Blake, the only werewolf to ever protect her. Love blossoms, but not without tribulations when Amber realizes she must help her new pack rescue a member who is being held hostage by a rival pack.

Warring with emotions of going from lone wolf to the pack leader’s mate, Amber must decide if she is willing to risk Blake’s life to know true family and friendship despite the fact that the Council is hell bent on locating her and will stop at nothing until she is found. Will Amber’s special abilities be enough to keep everyone safe?
