Kenya Wright Interview and Giveaway

Kenya Wright, author of Fire Baptized has cruised by today for an interview and giveaway. Let's give this fellow Diva a big welcome!

Would you like to start off by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a wife and mother of three little rugrats. I have a degree in sociology, and am currently in my last year of law school. Additionally, I cyber stalk Jason Momoa.

During your writing career have you done anything embarrassing in the pursuit in getting published?
I have not, which is surprising because I’ve been told by many that I am a pretty embarrassing person.

What is one thing about you that your readers would find surprising or never guess about you?
I’m a hard core Harry Potter fan. I believe Harry Potter and I have a spiritual link because the movie and books usually came out on my birthday. I’ve also written several rap songs about Harry Potter to the complete embarrassment of my eleven year old step-son. Additionally, when I go to the HP movies, I actually draw a scar on my forehead. My husband usually walks a few feet behind me when I do that.

Can you tell us about your current work in progress, perhaps you could share a favorite fact or piece of fascinating information it?
I am currently writing the sequel to Fire Baptized titled The Burning Bush. My favorite piece about the sequel is that I push my imagination over the edge far deeper than in the first book, which is scary. In Fire Baptized, there is a lot of tension and bubbling conflict among species. In The Burning Bush, the boiling hot conflict spills over into something many readers will be shocked to see.

If you were to write yourself into one of your books or series which would it be, what role would you pick and why?
I would write myself into Fire Baptized. I would love to be a member of The Rebels. The group is a bunch of shapeshifters that hate humans’ oppression of supernaturals. The Rebels have shown this hate by rejecting anything that is considered “normal” by human standards.
They speak in a dialect called Lib Lib. They walk around in partial-shifted form. Fur covers their faces. Animal ears poke out from their hairstyles. They always were bright colors since humans tend to only wear black and white in my world.

What have you read and loved recently?
I’ve been raving about two books lately: Daughters of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor and The Electric Church by Jeff Somers.

How do you spend your down time between edits, deadlines, writing and creating new and fascinating books? Do have a favorite pastime or hobby to fill you spare time with?
I’m married to a great husband and I have three kids so my downtime is spent with them. However, this is sad to say but even during my downtime I’m thinking of new book ideas or taking something from the experience to add in my book. I really need to truly work on relaxing. It’s one of my resolutions for 2012.

How did you celebrate the publishing of your first book?
My husband and I went out, ate lots of yummy sushi, and drunk too much sake. It was a great time!

I love author stalking. Do you have any 2012 convention plans? Where can fans stalk you?
I will be starting a Blog Tour from Feb 20, 2012 to March 16. On the tour I will be giving away Amazon gift cards to commenters on each site. I also will be discussing love triangles in urban fantasy, world building techniques, and revealing interesting extra information about Fire Baptized's world.
This is the link for each blog I’ll be visiting:

What has been your favorite scene to write and why?
My favorite scenes are between Lenore and MeShack. They grew up together in the same household and survived really rough childhoods by uniting with each other. There is this strong love between them as well as a playful sensuality. I also just have a major crush on MeShack so anytime he’s in a scene, it’s a good time.

Kenya is giving away an eBook copy of Fire Baptized to a lucky winner. Just comment below with your email address. If you click the pic it will linky you over to the goodreads.com page. I will announce the winner on Sunday February 12! Good luck to y'all.

  4. Thanks so much to The Jeep Diva, lol, for supporting and promoting this book. Thanks so much for all of you entering the contest.

    Awesome!

The book has been doing really well. I woke up this morning and it made #2 on Amazon's bestseller Gothic romance list. I didn't think it is completly a gothic romance.... but I can see why people have tagged it as such.

    thanks everybody!
