Interview With Ravyn

I’ve had the semi-pleasure of interviewing Rhys, the hero of the story, and Icarus, the uncooperative demon from Shield of Fire, but I’m excited to be talking with Ravyn Mayfield, my heroine.

Boone: Ravyn, it’s great to have you here. Finally I get a little girl talk with one of my characters. I’ll admit, there’s a lot of testosterone in this book.

Ravyn: Lots. The men don’t realize yet that women don’t always need a pair of big, strong arms to protect them.

Boone: Speaking of big, strong arms, have you seen the cover for Shield of Fire?

Ravyn: Oh yes. I’m certain I’ll burn in the fires of The Abyss, but I keep it by my bed and gaze at it when Rhys is out patrolling for the Demon Bane. Don’t tell the Sisters at the abbey.

Boone: I won’t tell if you don’t tell my husband I sometimes rub the book across my chest and lick the cover.

Ravyn: Uh, that’s rather disturbing.

Boone: And painful when I get a paper cut on my tongue. So what was it like growing up in an abbey?

Ravyn: Quiet—dark—did I mention quiet?

Boone: Sounds dead boring, except for that sadistic monk problem you had to dodge.

Ravyn: Brother Powell, yes, he was quite the pain in my…

Boone: Oh, go ahead and say it, ass. He was a huge pain in your ass.

Ravyn: Exactly. Besides feeding my friend to the demon, he poxed me at every turn.

Boone: You kicked his ass though.

Ravyn: I did, didn’t I?

Boone: Seriously, if we were in prison, I’d be your bitch.

Ravyn: That’s really sweet…I think.

Boone: I got the impression that Icarus had a thing for you.

Ravyn: I hate that demon. He sucked the soul from my friend, which later in the book, well, I can’t give it away, but let’s just say it had far reaching ramifications.

Boone: Boy, that’s an understatement. But you have to admit, he’s good looking for a Bane. He’s not at all like those filthy animals who hang out with the Demon King.

Ravyn: The only way that demon would look good is if he had an immortal weapon sticking out of his chest.

Boone: Curious, Rhys basically said the same thing. So tell us about your powers.

Ravyn: Fire mainly; shooting it, blasting things, sending demons back to the Shadow World with a nice fireball. I can also see ghosts, have a respectable amount of healing powers, and can tell things.

Boone: Tell things?

Ravyn: Yes, I can tell when something is true, or if a situation is safe. I can tell which direction somebody has gone. I’m not able to read minds, just tell.

Boone: Because you’re a full-blooded Bringer, right?

Ravyn: Well, that’s a difficult question to answer. It’s not a simple yes or no. Besides, I don’t want to spoil the ending.

Boone: Agreed. Thanks so much for being with us today, Ravyn. Keep kicking Demon Bane ass and searching for those immortal weapons.

Ravyn: Thanks for having me. Oh, and if you wouldn’t mind, could you find a girlfriend for Luc, Rhys’s best friend? He needs a good woman.
