ARC Review: Goddess in the Middle by Stephanie Julian

Paperback, 336 pages
Expected publication: July 3rd 2012 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
ISBN 13: 9781402251535
Source: NetGalley, for the purpose of an honest review
Genre: Fantasy Romance, ménage
Best read in order: yes
Stars: 5
Flames: 4

This is another amazing book in the incredible The Forgotten Goddesses series. Amity the Etruscan Goddess of Health has become the latest target of Charun the Etruscan God of the Underworlds. He wants out of Aitas. He doesn’t seem to care that he is killing his sister goddesses to get what he wants. Amity unlike her sisters has decided she wants to keep the little goddess power she has left. She works in a hospital helping others with her remaining power. This is something she enjoys, it’s what she lives for.

Cousins Remy and Rom have spent the past twenty years chasing the demon that killed their family. They have found out the demon they are chasing has a new target, Amity. If they keep an eye on her the demon will eventually show and they will get what they want most, vengeance and they get to protect Amity at the same time. The cousins have no problems getting close to Amity, they approach her has two men in a bar looking for a night of hot sweaty good sex.

I love a good ménage and Goddess in the Middle did not disappoint. Remy and Rom have very different personalities. One is a charming flirt while the other is the quite stoic rock. Amity thinks she is just charging her goddess powers with a night of fun loving, but she soon she discovers she wants more than just one night. This is not too much of an issue, one cousin is fully on board with wanting the impossible (keeping her) the other is a slightly different story.

I love how Stephanie has loosely tied her Lucani Lovers, MagicalSeduction and Darkly Enchanted series in to this series. Something big is brewing in this Etruscan world. Each book has ended on some nature of a game changer. There is even a cryptic prophecy that partially unfolds in Goddess in the Middle. I love cryptic prophecies! I am dying to know where it is all going. I loved that many of the characters from past books got a little page time. Stephanie’s characters are all so memorable.

***m/f/m ménage including anal sex scenes***

Review: Grace in Moonlight by: Stephanie Julian

eBook, 139 pages
Published July 20th 2011 by Ellora's Cave
ISBN 13: 9781419935718
Source: Purchased for self
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Series: Lucani Lovers #5
Best read in order: yes
Stars: 5
Flames: 5

Kaisie is a must read. I absolutely fell in love with Kaisie. I loved his character from the very beginning. I was completely and utterly wowed by him at a little past the half way mark. He was having a we’re not teenagers conversation with Grace and he just told her what he expected and how it was going to happen. It was just the confidence he had in her, in him and what they could be together that impressed me. He wasn’t egotistical and cocky about it. He just laid it all out there for Grace to clearly see. So, Kaisie is a must read male!

I like Grace too. She has done some very unethical things to see to her son has a long healthy life. She regrets that people were harmed and terrorized in the process, but she has zero regrets on the fact that she wants her son to be happy and healthy. This woman has backbone when it comes to her children. When the opportunity arrises that allows for her to help in the rescue mission that will put her children back in her life she does not stand down when Kaisie tells her to stay at the lucani den.

I am also at the end of my magical Etruscan book journey until Stephanie gets more out there for me to acquire.  I am the slightest bit bummed. The readers are shown who the next couple will be in the Lucani Lovers series. They don’t have any roles in the past books so there is no point in me sharing that little tid bit.

Review: Moonlight Temptation by: Stephanie Julain

eBook, 152 pages
Published January 21st 2010 by Ellora's Cave
ISBN 13: 9781419932885
Source: Purchased for self
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance, M/F/M ménage, shifter
Series: Lucani Lovers #4
Best read in order: yes
Stars: 4

I found an unexpected surprise in Moonlight Temptation. It’s a ménage! I have no clue on how I did not pick up on that prior to diving in to this spicy novella. There’s one gal and two guys on the cover, I guess I’m ding-bat Diva. None the less I had no clue until Ryan approaches Evie and informs her that he is there to seduce her. Yes he is bold, hot, a doctor, hot, and has zero issues with telling Evie exactly what is on his mind at any given moment. There are so many things to love about Ryan.

Ryan is also the necessary element in this trio that brings Dane fully into the relationship. Dane knows he wants Evie sexually. He is otherwise having some issues with everything else Evie. Dane has much to stress over as the lucani doctor. He not only treats the community’s injuries, but he is trying find a couple of disease cures as well. There is also an issue concerning a stick, Ryan points the problem out regularly and it is apparently a familial trait.

I loved that Ryan and Dane are total opposites. This gives Evie two very different men in her life, at the same time. Dane and Ryan have been best friends for numerous years. They have shared lovers before, but always for just one night. Ryan and Dane know that they can’t have Evie just once. Ryan and Dane’s close brotherly friendship helps them push the other in the direction of keeping Evie theirs. They know what makes the other tick. Reading Dane and Ryan pointing out what they need to do for the best interest in Evie, very enjoyable. Evie made them open their eyes to see that what was best for them was best for her.

Dane drives a Jeep! I love Jeep driving heros.

Review: Edge of Moonlight by Stephanie Julian

eBook, 139 pages
Published May 7th 2010 by Ellora's Cave
ISBN 13: 9781419927911
Source: Purchased for self
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance, shifters
Series: Lucani Lovers #3
Best read in order: definitely read #2 before this one
Stars: 3
Flames: 5

As I finished reading Seduced by Two a few months ago I was left with a feeling of I want more of this series and that storyline. As I read Moonlight Menage I felt like it was a continuation, the pursuit of the woman who was behind Tira’s kidnapping had been picked up. I was pleased to see that continue with Edge of Moonlight. I also loved the familiar faces of the characters from the previous books. Readers get to see not only Lucani Lovers, but also some memorable faces from the Magical Seduction series.

I had some issues with Edge of Moonlight. I’m guessing the largest one was me. I just could not get into this one. I liked the characters Kaine and John individually. As a couple they put off huge amonts of sexual tension (always a must in any good romance.) They later heat up the pages with some scorching sex scenes (always a must in any good erotic book.) I just didn’t grasp the relationship that built between them. The overall theme/conflict of the series remained the same. They are still trying to figure out who the evil is behind the kidnappings. I think John’s sister Evie and her mess took away some of the focus of John and Kaine. That did however allow for the buildup for her story, the next book.

I of course will continue reading the series. I am very curious to see how a character and her son play into the kidnapping plot. I also think Evie and her situation are going to be a highly entertaining read. (Sorry for the vagueness there, trying not to give spoilers.)

Review: Moonlight Menage by Stephanie Julian

eBook, 240 pages
Published March 3rd 2010 by Ellora's Cave
ISBN 13:9781419927485
Source: Purchased for self
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance, Shifter, M-F-M ménage
Series: Lucani Lovers #2
Best read in order: no, works as a stand-alone
Stars: 5
Flames: 5

Tira truly believes her Gift is more curse than anything. She knows that she wants to be with both Nic and Duke. She knows that both Nic and Duke reciprocate these feelings. She knows that both men want to be with her in a relationship where they all three enjoy the pleasures they have to share. Nic, Duke, and Tira are all on the same page when it comes to fulfilling their desires.

The problem that keeps this trio apart, Tira can’t touch Nic. Every time she touches him she sees his death. Then she sees Duke push her away because he has lost his best friend. They have spent the past eight years avoiding each other.

Duke and Nic have very dangerous jobs within the lucani. When they have a close call with death this dire event leaves the trio questioning their distance. This is the push they needed to finally give in and see to their desires. They are determined to make the relationship work by any means possible.

I loved this novella. The first time that Nic, Tira, and Duke are all three together has got to be the hottest voyeuristic sex scene I have ever read. They knew what they wanted out of each other and they did everything possible to see that they got their happily ever after. The feelings they have for each other just couldn’t be denied any longer and it came together in this awesome novella.

Favorite quote: Duke to Kyle, “You know that Greek tragedy you got brewing here? Well our fat ladys already singing.”

I gotta point out that Duke drives a Jeep!

Nica, Tanner, and Jensen are mentioned quite often in Moonlight Menage. They do not have roles in the book however. They do have a great book (Seduced by Two) of their own that can be easily read as a stand-alone and I highly recommend it.

Review: Kiss of Moonlight by Stephanie Julian

Paperback, 186 pages
Published January 28th 2011 by Ellora's Cave Publishing
ISBN 13: 9781419963728
Source: Purchased for self
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance (shifter)
Series: Lucani Lovers #1
Stars: 4
Flames: 5

Julian’s lucani (wolf shifter) characters have a large presence in What a Goddess Wants. I found them very interesting and just had to find out more about them. It makes sense to jump into her Lucani Lovers series, so here I am. Kiss of Moonlight takes place several years prior to the Forgotten Goddesses series so jumping into the lucani world with this book was a great place to start.

Kyle is a single dad who enjoys every second of the time he gets to spend with his very witty, intelligent beyond her years, daughter Catene. He has a good relationship with the mother of his child and is best friends with her mate. As a loner Kyle has chosen to live separate from the rest of his lucani brethren. He is also caring enough not to bring anyone too far into his very dangerous life. He would never want a loved one to be put in harms way because of him

Tamra is running from the nightmare that has consumed her life. She is not comfortable anywhere. She doesn’t have any family to turn to. Once the stress finally got to be too much for her she decided to open up to the stray puppy that hangs out on her porch. She just never expected for the puppy to go home, shift to a clever teen, and then proceed to play match maker. I now know why my friend Laurie at Bitten by Paranormal Romance raved about Cat. This kid rocks! I can’t wait to read more of her.

I loved Kyle! He radiates dangerous bad ass. He’s enormous, tattooed, an assassin, and deep down a huge teddy bear when it comes to Cat and Tam. He was so gentle and so kind to Tam. He thought he would scare her at every turn. Tam, even though she has been through so much horror she handles all of the crazy thrown at her pretty well.

As with all of Stephanie’s books there are some extraordinary hot sex scenes. This lady writes incredibly hot smut! The romance doesn’t feel rushed or pushed. There is a great mix of action, romance, and erotica.

I also have to point out that Kyle drives a Jeep Wrangler. I do love my book hero’s in a Jeep!

Stephanie Julian Interview & Giveaway!

Please help me welcome Stephanie to theJeepDiva. Be sure to check out the end of Stephanie’s post for a ginormous giveaway!

Would you like to start off by telling us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a writer, a reader, a wife, a mother to two teenage sons, a very slow runner and a reformed newspaper reporter who continues to freelance by traipsing around other people’s gardens all summer and writing about it. I have a Junior Mint addiction, my favorite drinks are fuzzy navels and mojitos, and I love hockey, watching not playing.

I know that you write several different series. Can you please tell us a bit about each of them?

The Magical Seduction series was my first published series and those books deal with the Etruscan fairy races. Folletti, linchetti and salbinelli, otherwise known as fairies, elves and satyrs, oh my!  The Lucani Lovers series focuses on the Etruscan werewolves and their hide-in-plain-sight community. The Forgotten Goddesses is all about the Etruscan Goddesses, losing their powers over the past several millennia but finally learning to love. Witches and curses are at the heart of the Darkly Enchanted series. Then there’s the Fringe series. Bigfoot, Yeti, fairies, cat women. A little silly, way off-center and just a lot of fun. And, finally, the first in a new contemporary series begins in January from Carina Press. No paranormal at all. A little suspense, a whole lot of sexy heat, titled SEX, LIES & SURVEILLANCE.

Of the above mentioned series do you have a favorite that you prefer to write?

Not really, no. I guess the one I’m working on at the moment is my favorite. Right now, I’m revising the third book in the Forgotten Goddesses series. I love Remy and Rom. They’ve got issues but they’re the men you want at your back if you’re got trouble. And Amity is in serious trouble.

Can you tell us about your current work in progress, perhaps share a favorite scene or piece of fascinating information it?

I’m actually in the midst of working on a new proposal for my agent. Think Peter Pan with monsters and time travel. Still in the rolling-it-through-my-brain stage but it’s been percolating for a while now and starting to come together. I’m also working on the next book in the Fringe series (Andy is such a dork, love him) and the Darkly Enchanted series.

I love the uniqueness of your books. The Etruscan’s certainly adds to your books distinctiveness. Where did this idea come from?

My dad’s parents came off the boat from Italy. My grandfather was from Sicily, my grandmother from Rome. I wanted to use a mythology in my books that tied into that heritage but I didn’t want to do the Romans. They were overexposed. Then I discovered the Etruscans, from whom the Romans ripped off much of their culture.

The Etruscan beings that live and love in your books were any more challenging to write or were some of the species easier to write than others?

The bad thing about Etruscan mythology and Italian folklore is that there aren’t that many books that deal with it (at least not in English) so I can’t just pull a book off my research shelves and find an answer to a question. I really have to dig around to find tidbits to use in my books. The good thing is, that means I can make up whatever I want. Like with folletti, Italian fairies. I know what they’re called but there’s really no description that I can find. That allowed me to play around with them.

What have you read and loved recently?

I’m loving Thea Harrison’s Elder Races books. I’m in the middle of Serpent’s Kiss. And I’m anxiously awaiting HEART OF STEEL, Meljean Brook’s next book in her steampunk series, The Iron Seas. Next up, Shona Husk’s The Goblin King.

What is one thing about you that your readers would find surprising or never guess about you?

That underneath the suburban mom shell lurks the frustrated heart of a rocker chick. I love metal and hard rock, love going to concerts, love to blast Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Disturbed, Slipknot, Volbeat, Hell or Highwater, Suicidal Tendencies and mostly anything playing on Sirius Octane. I have two sons and music became something we shared, a way for us to connect. Now, I listen because I love it.

If you were to write yourself into one of your series which would it be, what role would you pick and why?

I’d want to be a witch. Control magic, maybe do some healing. Forget the warts and funky hat. Witches are misunderstood.

If you could have a romantic dinner with one of your very sexy characters which one would it be and why?

Well, I’d love to sit down with Sal. He’s a salbinelli, an Etruscan satyr, with the lower body of a goat and the upper body of a man. Sal’s got an interesting backstory that I’d love to discuss with him but we just never seem to get the time. Then there’s Quinn from Spell Bound. He’s such a sweetheart but still manages to be a hard ass werewolf. Love him
