I have loved traveling with Sarah and David on their quest from Seattle to the Midwest Wall. They have had so many different trails while on their journey to something that may or may not even exist. They have come across numerous different people that were not always helpful, sometimes paranoid, and most often just flat out crazy. The zombie slaying keeps the pages filled with action and fighting.

Eat Slay Love is another book in this humorous zombie apocalypse series. Sarah is starting to notice that David is having some interesting after effects from the zombie bite, even though he took the “cure.” Sarah is not worried about her husband harming her, but she is very concerned about his new attributes. After they pick up a couple of survivors along to way to the Wall they have to be prepared for the repercussions of them also noticing the subtle differences.

I love the humor. The humorous character dialogue really makes this series. There are so many awesome phrases that I know I will take with me for use. The one liners are plentiful and always witty or funny. These are individuals trying to make the best out of a very dire situation.  

At some point I have heard that Living With the Dead is a trilogy. If that is in fact the case then this would be the last of Sarah and David’s Badlands adventure. I checked Jesse’s website and did not find anything to confirm this. Eat Slay Love ends in a manner that allows for more books. I truly do hope so.

This is a great novella. It consists of 9 short stories of life before, during and after the Outbreak. It is an account of where people were, what they were doing, who they were with, who they were hiding from and the readers get to see how all these people were affected differently by the same event. This book can be read as a stand-alone. It takes place in the same world as Petersen’s Living with the Dead series. You need not read one to understand the other although; I highly recommend reading the Living with the Dead series. This is the same Zombie Apocalypse Sarah and David has been living through. This is just various peoples experience at different places and times. In the Dead: Volume 1 is filled with the post-apocalyptic humor and logic that has made reading Petersen so entertaining.

The characters range from teenage siblings, gamer hermit, couple hiding from the authorities, bridezilla, feuding neighbors, reality show participants to MacGyver. I loved the serial feel to the book. I liked the fact that some stories were a few days after the Outbreak while others take place months after. Locations range from apartment complex, beach house, survivor camps, suburbs, Vegas and the zoo. I love reading zombie apocalypse books. The thing that really sets this apart from the rest is the humor. This book is laugh out loud funny, full of wit, snark and a logic people have been forced to use to survive.

Avery is a television studio director who believes that the zombie drama happening in the Northwest that her studio is doing a telethon for could never get close to her in L.A. After one of the star hosts uses the doctor he is interviewing on the set as a midafternoon snack, Avery realizes how wrong she is. She along with her entire crew is then rushing themselves out of zombie danger while looking to her for guidance. I loved seeing this different side of Petersen’s Zombie world and how it affects different individuals. I am looking forward to more of these short Living with the Dead short stories due out early August in In the Dead Volume I.

Zombie Apocalypse is my guilty pleasure. I love reading it. It can be realistic, it can be gory and scary, it can be light and humorous, and I’m not picky. I love Zombie Apocalypse. Petersen’s Living with the Dead series is great. This novella can be read as a stand-alone without having read any of the full length books. I’ve the full length books in this series. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a book with wit, snark and laugh out loud humor.

                Book 2 picks up a couple of months after where Book 1 left off. Sarah and David have taken their adventure to Arizona where Zombie hunting and killing has become a not so profitable business for them. Cash is not as important as it used to be. People now use a barter system. Food and ammunition and other necessities have become Sarah and David’s payment for their Zombie exterminating services. This installment in the series includes a new species of even more dangerous Zombies and of course we get a mad scientist thrown into the mix. No Zombie novel would be complete without the crazed mad scientist.    

                Sarah and David as a couple are so easy to relate too. They have spats and tiny disagreements. They occasionally tell the other yeah okay you were right this time. I have this picture of them in my head as Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. Why those two? I honestly have no clue. I think it has to do with the romantic comedy of this series. Sarah and David are out in the world making the best of a horrible situation. I love these books. They are a light read. Zero heavy thinking involved. This is a quick easy read that is perfect for travel. Thus far I have read both books in this series while traveling. The Living with the Dead series is laugh out loud funny!

Book #1 in the Living with the Dead series

                This book is hilarious! I truly believe it is the funniest book I have read this year. I would never have thought anyone could combine Romantic Comedy and Zombie Apocalypse and get a great book from the combination, Petersen did this and she did an amazing job of it. The book is a quick and easy read. I read it while traveling through two different airports and 4 different flights while on a trip to Vegas. The chapters are rather short, so this made for good stopping points during my travels. Another awesome spine on this book. The publisher, author or person who make cosmetic appearence decisions, put the number of which book this is in the series on the spine (I wish there were more of this).

                The book starts out with Sarah and David driving to marriage counseling. They are running through reasons as to why they are not a happily married couple any longer. All seems fine in the world, with the exception of their marriage. This quickly changes when they reach the appointment. They find the counselor nibbling on the perfect couple who has the session before them. The book starts off quickly and moves quickly throughout the book. There is never a point where this book does not move along from one crazy experience with zombies (and crazy living people) to the next.

                Sarah and David decide rather quickly that they wish to stay together, alive preferably. They run into numerous problems with the living and the undead during their drive to make sure David’s sister has survived this zombie outbreak. While traveling they discover the joys of looting, teaching firearm handling, breaking and entering and cults who wish to begin repopulating the nation.  The more trouble they find the more they seem to notice how the problems they were hoping marriage counseling would fix don’t really exist. Each chapter even starts off with a tip on how to stay happily married.

                Book number 2 in the series will be out in stores on January 4, 2011. I know I will certainly be out and about looking to acquire my copy of Flip this Zombie. This is a cute humorous series.
